About

Hi! I’m a journalist who covers business, technology, transportation, Elon Musk, corporate malfeasance, and more. I break a lot of news, and I’m interested in telling stories that make people do a double-take. I currently work for TechCrunch, after years spent at Bloomberg News and The Verge.

Want to help me tell a good story? Send your tips or secrets to me on Signal: okane.01

Some things you should know if you want to reach out:

  • I talk to a lot of people who have never spoken to the press before, and I’m happy to walk you through the process or answer any questions.
  • There are many ways we can talk. A conversation is on the record by default. But we can speak off the record (meaning I won’t record and cannot use the information without your permission) or on background (I can use the information but it won’t be attributed to you). We just need to set the ground rules up front.
  • I have spent a decade talking with sources in sensitive situations. There are many things I learn that never get reported because it would expose the source even if they’re not named. But if you feel it’s important information, we can find a way.
  • I always want at least a second source to corroborate what you’re telling me. That can be other employees, or a document, or some other mix. Think: Strength in numbers.
